Poster for the SLO STC Business and Professional FairSponsored by the Society for Technical Communication (SLO STC), this year's Fair promises to be another exciting event that will showcase our local associates specializing in business, technical, creative, and marketing communications.

Come early and plan to network with all kinds of new prospective clients and service providers! Want to meet people who can help you with your next project or engage with folks who might need your services? This is the place! Refreshments will be served in the lobby and we'll be raffling off a wonderful gift basket containing edible goodies and various items contributed by exhibitors.

Cost: FREE!

Date & Time: Monday evening, May 19, 2008, 6:00 - 8:30 PM.

Location: KCBXnet (formerly SLONET) computer training room, 4100 Vachell Lane, San Luis Obispo (at the intersection of S. Higuera St. and Vachell Lane, between Tank Farm Rd. and Los Osos Valley Rd).

Flyer: http://slostc.org/events/may19_stc_business_fair.pdf

RSVP: ASAP to participate as an exhibitor; optional for simply attending the meeting. Last year we "sold out" our display space very early, so please don't wait until the last minute to RSVP! Please e-mail info@slostc.org, or call Adele Sommers at 805-462-2199 ASAP regarding the availability of any remaining display spaces.

Examples of product and service exhibits will include:

  • Technical communication (e.g., documentation, editing, design, training)
  • Creative communication (e.g., graphic design, fiction and non-fiction writing)
  • Marketing communication (e.g., PR, publicity, Web design, and e-commerce systems)
  • Business problem-solving (e.g., achieving results through systems, processes, instructional design)
  • Supporting professional services (as space permits)

Last year's SLO STC Business and Professional Fair (below) literally buzzed with conversation and energy — and resembled a cross between "share and compare notes" and "networking on steroids."

It offered participants a terrific opportunity to "hang out a shingle" for the evening or just come and see what their associates are doing in the businesses and professions that they never have enough time to tell their colleagues about.

Sixteen business owners, freelancers, and instructors displayed samples of their wares or their work in the KCBXnet Training Room and lobby (see the exhibitor list below). We welcomed chapter constituents and the general public to visit the displays and have insightful "one-on-ones" with exhibitors.

People brought their business cards, brochures, résumés, audio books, pamphlets, books, samples, laptop-driven demonstrations, foam board displays, and more, engaging visitors and each other in a comfortable exchange of ideas and information.

A number of new collaborations formed and people left with a brand new set of friends and contacts!
